footcol_jpg.jpgA couple of years ago I went on a rant about stubbing my toe. Then in May of the same year things progressed and the damned toe became damned near crippling. Well, the infection, not the toe. It may have been painful, but it made for two funny blog entries (definitely worth a read, or re-read if you’ve read them before)

Here we are at exactly the same time two years later and guess what? About a month and a half ago I was putting my converter dolly (the thing that joins two trailers together for doubles or triples) in front of my second trailer. After cranking the dolly wheel down I notice it was turned slightly sideways. If the wheel is sideways there is a good chance of the hook rolling to one side or the other when the lead trailer is backed up to it. This makes it difficult to get the tiny round hole over the big hook thingy on the trailer. Now, I am pretty good at hooking these damned things up, but why mess around.

In order to ensure there wouldn’t be any sideways roll I decided to kick the wheel straight. Big mistake!! Different foot, big toe this time. Not Fun. I wasn’t wearing work boots (shhhh). When i kicked the wheel it didn’t give an inch. All it did was take me to the ground in pain.

When I got up the next morning the toe was painful but not unbearably so. It was a little discoloured but nothing out of the ordinary. I though nothing of it until about two weeks ago when I decided to clip my toe nails. There on my right foot, on the big toe was a big blue thing. I guess I did some damage.

Now another two weeks later it appears a new toe nail has grown under the dead one. Here’s the thing… The old nail is loose. It has almost completely separatedfrom the new nail below it, but it is still attached on the sides and top. It’s driving me batty. I know it has to come off, but I am too chicken to pull it. I know it is going to bleed, and maybe even hurt…..

It sucks being a big-tough trucker, WIMP! so what should I do?

What should I do with my sore toe?
